Süderspitze at the northern end of the Curonian spit, formerly also called Süderhuk or Süderhaken.

Within the years 1814 to 1821 five fisherman families settled here. Sembritzi tells in "Geschichte des Kreises Memel, 1918": Hier werden angesiedelt 6. Juni 1814 Fischer Joh. Werkull (4 Mo. magdebg. zu freien Rechten, fünf Freijahre, dann 1 Thlr. Zins), 25. Oktober 1819 Fischer Martin Reinhold, 1. März 1819 Johann Reinhold, 1821 die Fischer Baltag und Schakmann.

The map from 1821 shows how secluded the fishermen's houses were, to which apparently no passable way led up from the Sandkrug. Nevertheless three jetties which existed already since 1809 were at the fishermen's disposal. These served for the ballast unloading point of Süderspitze, which had been established in 1795. Already 1831 the houses of the fishermen became swept away by the water. Hence they had to domicile themselves on safe sites nearby.
In 1866 was the start of construction for the Wilhelmsfort in Süderspitze. The lane leading up north (see the historical view on the previous page) probably arose from this occasion. As well the development of the south mole which started in 1900 or the erection of the villas of Sandkrug a few years later could have been the reason to put up this path.
