The government had already pointed to the necessity of the erection of a slaughterhouse in 1895; it was opened Septembers 26th, 1915. The costs of the plant were 700 000 Mark, and it was dimensioned to slaughter 3000 cattle, 13 000 pigs and 6500 small livestock every year, namely 8 -10 cattle, 20 small livestock and 40 pigs simultaneously.

The slaughterhouse became realized on base of an design of the architect Kleemann. One of the two houses standing on both sides of the gate served as administration respectively dwelling-house for the slaughterhouse director. The other was a restaurant.
Between these two buildings one has a look to the slaughterhouse's main building with its little bell-tower.
An expansion of the slaughterhouse took place in 1930. After the second World War modern cooling facilities were installed.
